Philosophy. Throughout my (previous) athletic career, I have interacted with amazing coaches - from a young age through my collegiate softball career. And in primary school through higher education, I have had great mentors who have helped me get to where I am today. From each coach and teacher/professor, I have learned different characteristics that help me to be a better teacher, coach, and mentor. I believe in the power of teaching and mentoring because I was mentored. I believe that we should be giving back by coaching and mentoring others! I am grateful for the mentoring opportunities I have had so far, and I look forward to continuing to break down the gatekeeping aspect of academia.
My mentoring philosophy is to help my mentees find their strengths, help them to fail quickly, efficiently, and forward, and to discern their path forward- which is not the same as my own path. To support them, to openly communicate with them, and to lead them in ways that will allow them to self-discover and create their own success, and therefore the lab and team success. At the end of the day, we are a team.

Margot LaVigne (Computer Engineering, Freshman, 2026) and Juan Jose Aranguren Vergara (Mechanical Engineering, Freshman 2026)- Pressure Sensors to Onshore Depths.

Therese Reisch (Environmental Science, 2023-2025) - Field Findings of Coastal Boulder Transport, including three fieldwork trips to Ireland. Therese is now working in an environmental/biology consulting position in Colorado.

Emma Speyer (Civil Engineering 2024-2025) - Building a Global Database of Coastal Boulder Deposits. Worked with myself and my advisor on the ISROC project. Emma is now a PhD student at Oregon State.
Presented her work at the COSE-JAM conference and at the YCSEC-A conference. Published NHERI DesignSafe Dataset and co-author on published journal article in Geomorphology.
